Pacific Rim (2013)
Guillermo del Toro / Action/Sci-Fi / Where to Watch

Synopsis
In 2013, monsters called Kaijus started emerging from the pacific ocean. In the face of an unprecedent threat to all of humanity, all nations of the world band together to create machines known as Jaegers. Now in 2025, the war against Kaijus seems to be never-ending, with them getting harder to fight every time they appear. The film follows Raleigh Becket, the co-pilot of a Jaeger called Gipsy Danger, as he is forced to come back to the Jaeger program after having retired in 2020 due to experiencing an unimaginable tradgedy. The Jaeger program is being shut down due to its ineffectiveness, even though the alternatives, which are massive walls along shorelines, are being proven to be even less effective, and Raleigh is one of the last trained pilots left.
Why I love this film
I went into this film not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, as I am not typically one to like big monster movies. So the fact I immediately got incredibly hyperfixated on it was certainly a shock. As someone who also isn't the biggest fan of romance subplots, or even worse, main plots, I found myself unbothered by the main romance shown throughout the film. The two characters have genuine chemistry, and you can tell that they actually like eachother. Not only that, but there is a notable emphasis in the film to build their platonic relationship before pursuing anything romantic, evident by the fact that they don't even kiss at the end! They just hug!!! That fact made me very happy.
